NOTE: Rehearsals have started for the 2023/2024 season, and while we arestill currently accepting auditions, students will not join until the beginning of Rehearsal Cycle 2, which begins mid-November 2023.
Scholarships and financial aid are still available and will be available for mid-year acceptances. Tuition will be prorated to 1/3 the cost of the entire season. We would love to have you join us at a natural starting point with new music and new opportunities for success! While we are accepting auditions from all instrument groups, we are particularly in need of the following: - Tuba - Bassoon - Double Bass - French Horn - Oboe Thank you for your interest in WMYO. We look forward to connecting with you soon! Requirements:After submitting the Audition Request Form, students will be contacted by the Music Director to arrange an audition.
For the upcoming 2023/2024 Season, auditions will consist of audio submissions. Alternatively, students may email Music Director Alberto Rodriguez to request a virtual or live audition. Interested students should prepare one solo or étude of their choice, selecting a portion no longer than 3-4 minutes, ideally with slow and fast material. At the Music Director's discretion, Major and melodic minor scales up to 3 flats and sharps may also be requested as a secondary audio submission. (two octaves for Bass, Winds, and Brass). We are now accepting new applications for the 2023/2024 Concert Season. For questions regarding your participation or enrollment, please send your inquiry to: albertorodriguez@wmpamusic.org Percussion: Please indicate in your application under "activities" with which instruments you are proficient. Preference will be shown to players who are comfortable tuning timpani and are prepared to perform a solo, ètude, or exercise on the following: Timpani, Mallets: Marimba/Xylophone/Bells, and Snare Drum. Note to Marching Band/Athletics students: Brass players and percussionists participating in FCPS Marching Band and/or Athletics are able to begin enrollment in November and should include a note in the “other music activities” section of the Audition Request Form. Principal ChairsPrincipal chairs are open to any qualified musician regardless of age or seniority at the beginning of the season. Auditions are conducted as appropriate by the Music Director. Audition performance and leadership skills are both considered when making a selection.

Requirements:After submitting the Audition Request Form,
students may either: 1) Arrange a virtual audition by emailing Music Director Martin Garfield-Levine, or, 2) Submit a recording (one long or multiple tracks) of a musical solo or étude of their choice, along with 1 Major and 1 melodic minor scale, to: mgarfieldlevine@wmpamusic.org Scales Strings: Violin/Viola/Cello (2 octave scale) Double Bass (1 octave) Major scales: C, G, D, A and F, B-flat, E-flat Melodic Minor scales: a, e, b, f-sharp and d, g, c Prepared Solo: Solo representing the student’s highest level of performance. Memorization is not required. A copy of the music must be provided to the audition adjudicators; music will be returned immediately following the audition.
