Youth Orchestras Audition Information

Auditions for the 2025|2026 WMYO Season are virtual, unless an in-person audition is requested.
​If an in-person audition is requested, arrangements will be made to have an audition at the following locations: ​
WMYO
WMYO Winds: West Potomac High School
WMYO Strings: Mount Vernon High School

Virtual auditions may be submitted to [email protected] as an unlisted YouTube video link or through Dropbox/Google Drive (please assure sharing permissions are set to "Open" or "Viewable")
WMCO
Twain Middle School

Youth Audition Request Form

Audition Requirements

WMYO
  •  Musical solo or étude of your choice that you believe best demonstrates your current musical/technical abilities. 
  • 1 major scale and 1 melodic minor scale 
  • Scale requirements: At least a two octave scale (three octave preferred) in any key up to 4 sharps/4 flats. 
WMCO
  • Musical solo or étude of your choice that you believe best demonstrates your current musical/technical abilities. 
  • 1 major scale and 1 melodic minor scale 
  • Scale requirements: All scales must be two octaves, applicants may choose any major or melodic minor scale to perform up to 3 sharps/2 flats. 

Notable Information

  • Private lessons are not required for participation.
  • Financial aid opportunities, tuition payment plans, and scholarships are available in order to create maximum access for students and families. 
  • ​WMYO and WMCO (grades 9-12) rehearses Tuesday evenings 6:30-8:30 pm from August - May at Homes Middle School (6525 Montrose St, Alexandria, VA 22312.)
  • WMYO and WMCO perform three concerts per year.
  • We understand students have many competing interests for their time, and we are glad to be flexible and understanding in terms of the other commitments that students have.
