WMPA in the Community

WMPA continually works to build its relationship with the community not only by providing musical performances to the community at large, but also by launching new initiatives geared towards creating unique opportunities for musicians and music lovers and through direct collaborations with various local organizations.

For example, WMPA has launched several initiatives including hosting a concerto competition for young musicians, pioneering a composition competition for composers in the Mid-Atlantic region, forming a Concert Orchestra for the development of student musicians, and forming a Volunteer Guild to support the fundraising and staffing needs of the organization.

WMPA has also collaborated with several groups in the community, including a music-education partnership with Fort Hunt Elementary School, a gospel music performance with Ebenezer Baptist Church, a performance of a world-premier written by WMPA’s composer-in-residence James Kazik for collaboration with pre-school children at Alexandria’s Hopkins House, and a graphic design project with Boston University’s Center for Digital Imaging and Arts in Washington, D.C.
